Waltja’s long-standing FMHSS program supports children and teens (0-18 years old) who might be showing early signs of mental health challenges or at risk of developing them. We aim to boost their well-being, help them thrive in their communities, and reach their full potential. The Australian Government funds this program.
The Waltja team provides flexible and responsive services to address the social and environmental factors that lead to mental health conditions for children and young people when signs or symptoms of poor mental health first appear. Collaborating with local mental health professionals, we also offer activities like beauty treatments in safe, supportive, and fun environments for mothers. For example, the Aputula Community Women’s Group leads sessions specifically for women and young mothers, featuring activities like cooking, camping, painting, and self-care gatherings. These sessions are designed to give mothers a break from daily responsibilities while connecting with others. Waltja is proud to offer diverse programs tailored to the needs of our communities, supporting mental wellbeing across Central Australia.
Waltja is primarily self-funded through careful financial management, along with grants and partnerships with government and non-government organisations.
All Waltja Directors are Aboriginal women from remote Central Australian communities who have been elected by the community members and are recognised for their leadership and contributions.
