Waltja’s long-term Reconnect Youth initiative supports young people aged 12 to 18 at risk of homelessness. We prioritise safety, family and community reconnection, and a path towards a resilient future. This service is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services.
At Waltja, we are dedicated to empowering young people in our communities through our Youth Employment Support Program. This initiative helps individuals like an 18-year-old woman from Papunya who recently approached us seeking employment after completing Year 12. Waltja’s Youth Employment Support Program is also designed to provide the resources, guidance, and connections necessary for young people to thrive in their careers and contribute positively to their communities.
Waltja's mission is to empower Aboriginal families and communities in Central Australia through culturally relevant programs that enhance wellbeing and support sustainable development.
Waltja is primarily self-funded through careful financial management, along with grants and partnerships with government and non-government organisations.
All Waltja Directors are Aboriginal women from remote Central Australian communities who have been elected by the community members and are recognised for their leadership and contributions.
